In a charming story reported by the Plymouth Herald newspaper (Plymouth UK), a thief has been found raiding a fish store and eating into the catch. Police were informed, but decided not to attend as the thief was believed to be an otter! Christmas came early for the inquisitive otter as staff at the fish quay fed him octopus, squid and whiting as they tried to lure him out. Quayside workers also left a trail of fish from the store across the dock side in a bid to catch the cheeky culprit. Sergeant Ryan Canning said: “An unusual report from the Fish Quay, Plymouth, where an otter has got into a storage area. “Probably too fat to swim now!” A force spokesman added: “We first got a call at 9:40am and were told an otter was in a storage compound. “We took advice from the Otter Sanctuary in Buckfastleigh who said that the otter should be encouraged back into the water as it wasn’t injured and there were no concerns for its welfare.” A supervisor at Plymouth Fisheries said he had called the RSPCA, Dartmoor Zoo and the Otter Sanctuary, in Buckfastleigh, for advice. “I have never ever had an otter at the fishery before,”said the supervisor. “He must have come from the river. He seemed to really enjoy the whiting we gave him – there’s just a head left. We’ve been advised to leave the gate open and let him find his own way out.” Read more: http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/Otter-breaks-fish-store-Plymouth-quay-eats-catch/story-20344220-detail/story.html#ixzz2oIGlsYrw… More:
