More than 180 species of fish that glow in a wide range of colours and patterns have been discovered and documented by scientists. The research, led by a team from the American Museum of Natural History, shows that biofluorescence is common among a wide variety of marine fish species, and possibly used for a range of behaviour, including communication and breeding.
