Folks around La Jolla California weren’t sure what they were seeing this past week. From a distance the dark colored water looks similar to a oil slick or even ride tide. Turns out, it was a very large school of anchovies. Scientists note that there hasn’t been a school of anchovies this big and close to the shore in over 30 years. What’s even more unusual was the fact that school appeared in water that was 74 degrees, since anchovies prefer cooler temperatures.
